LOST in Sikkim
DAY 2 | 20 Dec 2015 | Chittorgarh to Jhansi
- Route: Chittorgarh – Kota – Baran – Shahabad – Shivpuri – Jhansi
- Distance: 495 Kms
- Road Condition: Excellent 4 lane highway. Bad roads before entering Kota city and traffic in Kota city to be navigated. Be cautious of Nilgai crossing in Kota and extreme caution needed throughout this route especially between Baran to Shivpuri for large cattle crossings.
- Stay: Hotel Sita, Jhansi
Chittorgarh to Kota was a fantastic 150 kms early morning ride which allowed us to maintain good speeds on arrow straight roads. It’s a cement concrete laid road which has huge Godzilla lines all the way for traction perhaps but that also makes the bike fishtail to some extent so we rode with caution obviously. This stretch also made us stop couple of times for photos and videos as it is very isolated and very inviting to take a break away from the crowd.
Finding good food hotels is a bit of challenge on such highways so we took early stop for lunch when a good hotel passed us. Who knows if there is a decent hotel ahead or not. Post Kota to Jhansi we rode on plush tarmac urging you to pick up speed and cover distances whereas the beautiful Sarson ke Khet (Mustard fields) tempt you to enjoy the views and at times stop to click some pictures. Quite a contrasting situation Is n’t it? Numerous cattle crossings on the national highway reminds us of the grave dangers on the road if one is not careful so we navigated our way till Jhansi with great caution. To some extent these cautions also played a key role in keeping us awake from sleep as the straight highways do become boring at times even though you have a powerful bike. Petrol pumps become a little scarce too on this highway and we came across a situation where we entered Shivpuri to fill petrol as most of us hit reserve since there were no fuel pumps in sight for good 30 to 40 kms. Now this petrol pump where we filled fuel was damn impressive, it had free WiFi and refreshments shop along with a nice seating, fountain & music too. Talk about facilities in middle of nowhere. So after enjoying a nice 30 odd minutes of break the ride continued. Again we found ourselves doing last stretch of the ride in dark till we reached the chaotic town of Jhansi to halt for the day at Hotel Sita as per HV Sir’s recommendation. Another eventful day’s ride and good roads made our journey pleasant so far.
